Our portfolio – energy
efficient and climate-driven

国产亚洲精品俞拍视频The solutions and technology we design, create and deliver to our customers need to be constantly developed to be more energy efficient during use but also require less energy during manufacture. We look at how to use fewer natural resources, fewer and more eco-friendly materials while wherever possible reducing product size and weight to positively impact space requirements and transportation. We apply a life cycle approach through our Design for Environment program with processes and procedures in place to ensure material efficiency and efficacy, improved power consumption as well as ease to recycle, reuse or refurbish at end of life. Energy reduction is considered and impacted at both the product and network levels.

Our current science-based target set for our Scope 3 emissions (our products in use) is to reduce those related emissions by 75% by 2030 compared to the 2014 baseline.


5G and zero emissions

5G is a natively greener technology than any previous wireless technology generation, with more data bits per kw of energy. Energy efficiency has been an integral part of the 5G standardization since its beginnings. But 5G networks require further actions to reduce the energy consumption that will come with exponentially increased data traffic.

There are several significant and effective energy saving features and functionalities both at the radio base station level and at the network level. These should all be combined to significantly improve the energy efficiency of wireless networks. 5G power saving features, small cell deployments and new 5G architecture and protocols. A simple but highly effective action is to use sleep mode on base stations during periods of inactivity, greatly minimizing its energy consumption. Renewable energy will also play a growing role in the future powering of networks.

Firstly, networks must take an architecture-driven approach, and they must develop innovations in many areas in order to make 5G networks as energy efficient as possible, reducing form factors wherever possible to lessen the use of materials, space and potential shipping emissions.

Cool base stations

Our Liquid Cooled Base Station won Silver in the international Quality Innovation Award. The Award ceremony took place in February 2020 in Tel Aviv, where the Ambassador of Finland in Israel handed over the certificate to the Nokia team. Our Liquid Cooling has previously won AT&T Supplier Award 2019, and Finnish Quality Innovation Award 2019. The world’s first liquid cooled base station was launched in November 2018.

The concept was demonstrated with the world’s first liquid-cooled base operating in a commercial network. The Quality Innovation Awards was organized for the 13th time by the Finnish Quality Association and the national quality organizations of the participating countries. Partner organizations were Basque Country, Botswana, China, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Israel, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Ruanda, Russia, South-Africa, Serbia, Spain, Swaziland, Sweden and Zimbabwe.

A total of 508 innovations were entered into the competition and the best24 were recognized. The award ceremony was held in Tel Aviv on February 5, 2020, hosted by the Israeli Institute for Quality, Innovation and Excellence. The diplomas signed by the President of the Republic of Finland Mr. Sauli Niinistö were awarded by Ambassadors and the official representatives of participating countries. The ambassador of Finland in Tel Aviv presented the certificate to the Nokia team representatives. A liquid-cooled demo is on display in our Executive Experience Center at Espoo Campus, Finland.

国产亚洲精品俞拍视频The winner of the award went through a strict methodology of evaluation based on their novelty value, usability, learning, customer orientation and effectiveness. The winners were chosen by the chairmen and CEOs of the participating national Quality Associations via a rigorous voting process. Nokia liquid-cooled base station reduces the energy consumption of a base station site by 30% by replacing air-cooling fans of our products and air ventilation/air conditioning equipment installed at the sitewith much more effective liquid cooling. Furthermore, the waste heat can be reused to help heat buildings or utility water. The total CO2 reduction impact is 80 %. Nokia launched the world’s first liquid cooled BTS in commercial use in Elisa network in Helsinki city center, Finland in late 2018.

国产亚洲精品俞拍视频These technology solutions were brought together to monitor, and capture input information for a trial in Finland to understand the levels of blue-green algae in the Baltic Sea. We collaborated with Nordkapp, Finnish Environment Institute SYKE, Telia and Vaisala to develop and text new environmental research and monitoring tools. High speed and low latency and capacity to handle masses of data make 5G ideal for providing real-time detailed, accurate data. And blue-green algae in our seas is just one example of the potential environmental monitoring uses of 5G.

Sensing and analyzing air quality

国产亚洲精品俞拍视频According to the World Health Organisation, 9 out of 10 people are now breathing polluted air, and over 7 million people die from outdoor pollution annually. We continue to work with the MegaSense project which looks at how to create highly precise, real-time air quality and environmental sensing over a 5G network.
